The Summer Institute

The TTRN – CITRIS International Summer Institute aims to build and support an international network of researchers dedicated to the creation of impactful research and innovation in health informatics and data science.  We accomplish this by sponsoring an annual Summer Institute for doctoral students and post-doctoral trainees from across the globe.  Instruction is highly interactive and “hands-on,” thus successful learning depends on full engagement of the attendees. Core topics related to informatics, data science, tele- and digital-health methods and approaches are covered each year plus there is a changing focus area that reflects the particular expertise at the member organization that serves as the host.  Fellows submit a paper, receive feedback from faculty, and present an oral presentation of their paper at the final “conference” event. Thus, trainees who attend multiple times will experience a different curriculum each year.  Highlights of the Summer Institute include exposure to the local culture, social activities, and academic and industry networking opportunities.

2020: The 2020 International Summer Institute will be held virtually August 9 – 11 and August 24 – 26, 2020.  The 2020 topics include research methods and approaches for health informatics, tele- and digital-health, plus a special focus on data science, real-world evidence, robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive analytics, and associated data governance and ethical-legal issues.

Doctoral students and post-doctoral trainees may apply to be a Fellow which comes with partial funding. Advanced master’s students and faculty new to the topic area may also register on a space available..

2020 Program Chair: Katherine Kim

2020 Scientific Program Committee: Birthe Dinesen, Nick Anderson, Kristian Kidholm, David Lindeman, and Student Representative Cynthia Matsumoto
